Nov 18 NHL Picks and Tips: Chicago Blackhawks at Calgary Flames
Friday, November 18, 2011
Frank Martin
The Chicago Blackhawks' power play is rounding back into form. After boasting the fourth-best power play last season, Joel Quenneville's club was dead last 10 days ago.
The Blackhawks regrouped and converted on six of their last 14 chances to amass a four-game winning streak. Chicago will look to keep the good times going when it visits the Calgary Flames on Friday. The Blackhawks have dominated this series, winning 15 of the last 19 meetings - including a 4-1 triumph last week. While Chicago's power play has sprung to life, Calgary's effort with the man advantage has been dismal.
The Flames have failed to score on their last 17 opportunities overall and are just 2-for-40 at home. "Your power play is normally your best players. What do you want me to say about it? Your best players have to produce," Calgary coach Brent Sutter said. "Maybe I need to change personnel on it. I don't know."

The Blackhawks have opened as 135-moneyline favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NHL Hockey Odds.
Chicago Blackhawks (12-4-3): Chicago expects offensive outbursts from Stanley Cup hero Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews, but when defenseman Steve Montador gets into the act - well, that's saying something. Montador collected a goal and an assist during the Blackhawks' 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. He now has four goals and two assists during the team's four-game winning streak. In that same stretch, Kane has three goals and three assists while Toews is riding a four-game point streak.
Calgary Flames (7-9-1): Niklas Hagman's time in Calgary officially came to an end when he was claimed off re-entry waivers by the Anaheim Ducks. Hagman was part of the trade that sent Dion Phaneuf to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flames expected more out of Hagman, who collected just 17 goals in 106 games. Calgary has won just two of its last seven at home. Miikka Kiprusoff hasn't played poorly, but a lack of offense has been the primary reason for his undoing this season.
1.
After being placed on waivers, LW
Rostislav Olesz was assigned to Rockford of the American Hockey League on
Thursday. The seventh overall pick of the 2004 draft, Olesz did not collect a
point in six contests and was a healthy scratch in 12 games this season.
2. Calgary RW David Moss is nursing a lower body injury. He is
questionable for Friday's game.
NHL PREDICTION: Blackhawks 4, Flames 1. Kane and Toews will continue their respective hot hands and Corey Crawford won't be tested much as Chicago doubles up Calgary.
