Two weeks into the NHL season, the Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks have emerged as the frontrunners in the Pacific Division, sitting one-two in the standings. Each team has rattled off a four-game winning streak, but one will have to come to an end when the two meet in an NHL betting game on Friday night.
Interestingly, Anaheim has only scored 11 goals in five games. Bobby Ryan and Teemu Selanne lead the team with just two goals and an assist. 15 other players have recorded either one or two points.
In net, Jonas Hiller has looked sharp after recovering from vertigo-like symptoms that hindered him last season. Hiller has a .931 save percentage and 1.71 goals-against average in four starts. Anaheim has 28/1 odds of winning the 2012 Stanley Cup.
In Dallas, Kari Lehtonen is a perfect 5-0 with a .953 save percentage and 1.58 goals-against average, although he has yet to record a shutout.
Four Stars players have recorded five points, but only 13 members of the roster have contributed to the offense this season. Dallas will need to get some more depth scoring to continue the pace their on so far. Dallas has 40/1 Stanley Cup futures odds at the Bodog Sportsbook.
Anaheim went 4-2 against Dallas last season, two of those victories coming in overtime. This season they’re playing in one of the most competitive divisions in hockey, with Los Angeles and Phoenix also playing exceptional hockey early on. Only the San Jose Sharks have looked weak, but if previous seasons are any indication, they’ll be tough over 82 games. Winning divisional games like this one will be crucial as the season moves on.
